In this workshop, we will address the application process in academic settings. We will discuss the following topics.
Success criteria in academia: which expertise, skills and experiences will convince a selection committee or a future employer that you are qualified?
Application documents: which typical mistakes should you avoid? How can you communicate your value precisely and do you need to address weaknesses?
Interviews and the test lecture: how to convince the audience? Do interviewers want to 'trick' you with certain questions?
Is the playing field level for all genders? Is there a trade-off between meritocracy and equal chances? The negotiation process as case study.
Different players in the selection committee - how to address the different target audiences?
Beyond single applications - strategic considerations for your academic career development
Stereotypes: Are you being stereotyped because of your background? How to address potential pitfalls.
This workshop is designed to enable the participants to anticipate and navigate the application process for academic positions from postdoc all the way to professorships.
